Overview

A two-day practical workshop for anyone who wants to improve their communication skills. This course will equip participants with positive guidance and practical tips. Participants will learn how to communicate their message effectively, concisely, and with confidence, both verbally and through written methods.

Although our ways of communicating are constantly increasing, the effectiveness of our communications has decreased dramatically. The course aims to help participants avoid the most common pitfalls of poor communication such as:

  • Communicating by email only, and not talking with colleagues
  • Working relationships that show low levels of trust
  • Information overload and not being able “to see the wood for the trees”
  • Colleagues talking only in jargon that no one understands
  • Confusing and cluttered powerpoint presentations that are vague in their message

Audience

This course is for anyone who wants to develop confident business communications skills. It is designed for participants who sense that their existing communications channels are not working and who want to review how they communicate with colleagues.

Format

A practical “hands-on”, two- day course that encourages interactive discussion and problem solving. Sessions are led by a professional facilitator, with group discussions used to identify personal experiences of good and bad communication. Participants will leave more confident in their communication skills, having developed realistic action plans during the day.

The course is partly based on the trainer’s book, “Teach Yourself Successful Business Communication in a Week” and each participant will receive a free copy as part of the course.

The expert trainer

Martin is a highly experienced, professional reference- book editor, language trainer and consultant. He has worked with national and international companies and organisations leading courses on communications and business skills in a variety of areas, including: on time management, project management, report writing and how to run effective meetings.

Martin has a unique combination of skills as a highly experienced project manager, an English language specialist, a writer and editor, and a trainer and consultant.
