Training needs analysis

A comprehensive training needs analysis (TNA) can be a challenging project. If you haven’t done a full-scale analysis before you may well need some help. You might not have the resources available. You might be experienced in TNA but need support with the technical subject-matter. As a line manager, perhaps without an in-house training manager, you might be happy with the technical aspects but you probably won’t have TNA experience.

We can help.

As well as learning and development specialists we also have a wide range of subject matter experts available. If you want to focus on management skills then one of our learning and development specialists can undertake an analysis for you. If you need to focus on more technical skills, such as project management or procurement, then you can call on our subject matter experts to do the analysis. For a major exercise, we can supply a team of people to help you.

Our TNA report will enable you to align the skills currently available in your organisation or department with those required to meet your business objectives. The report will also help you to diagnose when training will solve certain problems and issues and when alternative interventions might be needed.

What is involved?

Whilst every project is different, the methodology is based on best practice and focuses on six key stages:

  1. Initial investigation – scoping your training needs study. Preparation and agreement of an investigation for the identification of current and future training needs.
  2. Preparation and agreement of an investigation plan for the identification of current and future training needs at organisation, departmental or work-group level.
  3. Selection of appropriate information-gathering methods so that training needs are reliably identified within any time or cost constraints facing your organisation.
  4. Analysis of the information and data to identify needs and determine priorities.
  5. Development and production of an outline plan to show the proposed training solution.
  6. Informal and formal reaction via a written report and presentation to seek approval for the recommendations.
To discuss – entirely without obligation – how this might work for you, please give us a call. We’re here to help!
